Top Three Superhero Films

Continuing in the tradition, here's a fun one.

1) Unbreakable: The best representation of the "superhero in real life" I've seen. It keeps things grounded and intimate, with almost no action scenes, and yet plays by all the rules of a superhero origin story.

2) Superman: The one that started it all featuring, appropriately, the one who started it all. Set the standard for how superhero movies are made.

3) The Dark Knight: Yes, I will run the risk of appearing taken in by hype, but when judged by its own merits, this film accomplishes everything a Batman film should as well as crafting one of the most intelligent scripts for the superhero genre.

Let the great debate begin!

1) The Incredibles: This has got to be one of the best Pixar films ever made. The characters are wonderful, the plot is well crafted and it, like Unbreakable, is an original riff on old themes. A brilliant addition to the genre that adults and kids can enjoy together.

2) Batman Returns: This is what you get when you let Tim Burton go with a Batman project. More artistically tight than it's predecessor (One of my favorite movies of all time BTW) The characters are well drawn by both script and performer. The set design is a masterpiece and the plot, though containing problems is a spider web of conflict, revenge, love and loss.

3) X2: Blade showed that comic book movies could be financially viable, but Bryan Singer's X-Men films proved that Comic Book movies could tell a serious story. This sequel is truly superior to the original, we get a greater scope, higher stakes and We finally see Wolverine kill someone in a brutal fashion. The best of a great series.

This was a touch one to narrow down, there are so many great ones.
